this is about telling a story.
The purpose of this website is not to present only my most successful, most polished works. It's to show that there's so much more that goes into doing art.
On this website you'll find my work from my freshman year in Art I. It's there to show where I started from and how far I've come. My current work didn't come from nowhere; it took years of practice, persistence, and failure. And I'm still learning and improving. My ideas and ethics have similarly changed drastically over my artistic career. You'll also find documentation of my sketchbook. Not many of my peers present their sketchbooks to their websites. It's not officially required. It's there to show that artmaking is not only creating gallery works. A big part of artmaking is developing artistic habits; the sketchbook embodies that. Under "Art Updates", you'll find my own commentary. My process posts show how much work there is in artwork. In the process posts, I try to show the development of an idea into a visual product. At the end of each project, I reflect on how it went and what I can learn from it. Again, these kinds of reflections are not required. "Art Updates" also includes my analysis on contemporary art trends and specific artists. These types of posts show that being an artist is about consumption as well as production. |
